Virginia Resident Tuition Scholarship
VCU is pleased to offer undergraduate Virginia residents a one-time tuition scholarship to offset the 3% tuition increase in the 2022-2023 academic year. This tuition scholarship effectively keeps a zero percent tuition increase for undergraduate Virginia residents for the fourth consecutive academic year.
How it works:
Undergraduate Virginia residents will receive a tuition scholarship credit on their billing statement for tuition cost differences between the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 academic year. Students will automatically be considered for the tuition scholarship based upon enrollment at VCU. No application is necessary.
Example 1:
An undergraduate Virginia resident student taking 1-14 credit hours:
- Fall 2021 was charged $417 per credit hour
- Fall 2022 will be charged $430 per credit hour
- A tuition scholarship will reduce the tuition cost of the billing statement by $13 per credit hour ($430 - $417 = $13)
- In this example, a student enrolled in 14 credit hours for fall 2022 will receive a tuition scholarship in the amount of $182 ($13 x 14 credit hours = $182)
Example 2:
An undergraduate Virginia resident student taking 15 credit hours
- Fall 2021 was charged $6,047
- Fall 2022 will be charged $6,236
- A tuition scholarship will reduce the tuition cost of the billing statement by $189 ($6,236 - $6,047 = $189)
- In this example, a student enrolled in 15 credit hours for fall 2022 will receive a tuition scholarship in the amount of $189.
Frequently asked questions:
The tuition scholarship is only available to undergraduate Virginia residents.
The tuition scholarship has only been approved for the 2022-2023 academic year defined as fall 2022, spring 2023 and summer 2023. At this time, there is no expectation for the tuition scholarship to continue into the 2023-2024 academic year.
Any amount of credit hours may be taken each semester for consideration.
There is no minimum GPA requirement.
The SAP policy is not applicable to the tuition scholarship.
The value of the tuition scholarship will be included within the financial aid package of a student. Federal and Commonwealth financial aid program regulations require any financial resources a student receives to be factored into the financial aid package. Other financial aid awards may need to be adjusted as a recipient of the tuition scholarship.
The value of the tuition scholarship may change based upon the total amount of credit hours of enrollment during the semester. Example: If the tuition scholarship award was initially based upon 15 credit hours of enrollment and a student is now enrolled within 12 credit hours after the first week of classes, the tuition scholarship award will be reduced because the tuition billing rate was less.
The tuition scholarship is only applicable to tuition expenses. Other fees on the billing statement, such as the university fee, technology fee, library fee, student activity fee, academic support services fee, health fee, program/major fees, on-campus housing or on-campus meal plans, are expenses outside of consideration.
The tuition scholarship is available to all undergraduate Virginia residents demonstrating enrollment at VCU. Students may be degree-seeking, nondegree-seeking or enrolled within a certificate program.
As long as you are enrolled within an undergraduate program and remain a Virginia resident, you will be considered for the tuition scholarship.
