Students are charged additional fees based on programs of study and academic courses. Programs not listed on this page may not have additional fees.
VCU reserves the right to revise or alter all fees and regulations pertaining to student fees and fee-collection procedures at any time.
Undergraduate arts major program fee
A program fee is charged to all undergraduate School of the Arts majors per semester, regardless if the student is enrolled in arts courses. Revenues are allocated to the individual departments for the cost of materials, services and equipment.

Honors College fee: A fee assessed to any student enrolled in the Honors College to help finance student enhancements and to support the Honors lecture series - $75 per semester.
All full-time Ph.D., and first-professional students (D.D.S., M.D., Pharm.D.) and international students (students on F- and J- visas) are required to enroll in the VCU student health insurance program unless proof of other comparable insurance can be shown. Students are required to complete the waive-out process within the open enrollment period. Students who are not approved for the waiver or students who fail to complete the waive-out process within the enrollment period will be assessed the health insurance fee, regardless of other existing coverage. Additional information about the health insurance plan is available on the Office of the Provost website.
Fall coverage is from August 15, 2024 through December 16, 2024 and the spring coverage is from December 17, 2024 through August 14, 2025 for the first-professional and Ph.D. students. Fall coverage is from August 15, 2024 through December 16, 2024 and the spring coverage is from December 17, 2024 through May 14, 2025 for international students. International students may purchase coverage for the summer semester (May 15, 2025 through August 14, 2025) directly through United Health.

The insurance charge will appear on the student bill once the student enrolls in classes and tuition and fees are assessed for the semester. Students who successfully complete the waive-out process within the enrollment period will receive a waiver for the amount of the insurance on their account.
First professional students who opt into the annual coverage will have the annual cost split and billed in August and in January. First professional students will only complete the waive-out process in August.
Ph.D. and international students who opt into the program will be billed the semester plan rates in August and in January. Ph.D. and international students must complete the waive-out process in both August and January.
The U.S. Department of Education regulated that institutions may not require a student to use Title IV financial aid funds to purchase books or supplies charged in excess of standard tuition and fees. The majority of the tuition surcharges and fees assessed by VCU do not include a component for books and supplies. Listed below are courses in programs with a tuition surcharge that includes a component for books.
